This novel is often cited as one of the great English comic novels of the 20th Century.
CP Snow quote on original cover:
“It is humorous self-mocking, hopeful, endearing. For promise and achievement combined, it is the best first novel I've read in the last two years.
So did we all have a good laugh?
Thought it very funny year's ago, with certain scenes still well-remembered, wanted to see how it had stood the test of time. Although still enjoyed the humour, I enjoyed it in a different way. Particularly struck by how well-written it was. Jim Dixon tries to fit into a world where he doesn't really belong and is very confused about how to deal with the main female characters.
